Outfit of the Other Day (Vintage)

Making the most the last summer wild flowers of the year...

Today, I've done a quick post to show you this very sweet vintage dress. Ordinarily I don't go near yellow. It is, in fact, a colour I actively avoid. However, when I saw this, I knew it had to be mine. Please do excuse the occasional crease - I haven't had chance to tend to it properly yet - I wanted to show you all first!

The back is totally adorable with frilly edging. The print is floral and is very obviously from the seventies!
 

I've teamed it with some gold hoop earrings that I picked up from Gray's Antiques just off Bond St in London.

Outfit of the other Day... The Jumpsuit

Love it or loathe it, the jumpsuit has been around all season. I've personally fallen in love with this one - not only is it versatile, it's uber comfortable. Looks fab dressed up with heels for the evening, or flats for daytime lolling around.

• Jumpsuit: Florence & Fred £10 (in the sale)

• Black Head Scarf: Ayoka (Charity shop on Old Ford Rd in London's Bethnal Green - has some real gems in there!)

• Added in a denim waistcoat, picked up from a charity shop for a bargainous £2!

Jewellery

As most of you know, I adore vintage jewellery and if I can beg, borrow or steal it, then I will. Here's what I'm wearing here:

Earrings: Vintage Stirling Silver roughly 60/70's

Bracelet: Family heirloom from the 30's. I very much wish I had a better camera than my iphone4 because this picture really doesn't do this piece justice. Plus, I would have been able to zoom in to show the fabulous detailing of what looks like a little nymph.

The first ring is a vintage silver piece from the 60's and is one of my favourites. The second, the turquoise, I wear for more sentimental reasons and is from Tunisia - bought from a man, Mr Torvik whom had one of the most impressive market shops I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I came back with handfuls of amazing finds and perhaps one day I will do a separate blog post to share some of them with you.

(In case you were wondering, the thumb ring never comes off even though I've had it for centuries and it is all bashed up - modern, Stirling silver from a market in Portugal on my first holiday without parents!)

Make-up 

This look is pretty severe. With all my hair swept back it does create a bit of a statement. Here is what I went with to create it:

NARS Laguna from a Bronzer VIRGIN!

I have to admit that I am a bronzer virgin. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am scared of the stuff. I've always been very pale (see below!) and I wasn't sure how these products could possibly work on my skin other than to make me look as though I'd been tangoed or that my head didn't match the rest of my body. No, I was convinced from very early on that I was a blusher girl - an 'english rose' sort. One that flushed naturally with a lovely pink on the apples of my cheeks.

Okay, okay this is a terrible picture I do admit...but you get the point right?

I did my make-up artistry training and used a variety of bronzers on my clients.  I could see their benefits but was still skeptical as to the outcome they'd have on me. It was only after a bout of illness that I noticed my usual paleness has gone into ghostliness. A friend was on hand with Benefit's Hoola and I was shocked that what seemed to look like mud in the box came out rather nicely on my face. I bought some almost immediately and I've been using it ever since. It's completely matt and what I particularly appreciate about this product is that I can also use it for contouring.That discovery was about two years ago now.

Yes, it's looking a little worse for wear now...

 Two boxes of Hoola on, I've decided that it is time for change. Spring has sprung and as I currently have an obsession with NARS I decided that a great place to start would be the well established, well loved NARS Bronzer powder in Laguna.

Can I really be a bronzed goddess? Erm, well for £24 I definitely hope so... So my first impressions? 

 

Despite the satin finish I do not have a glittery face, in fact, my complexion has been warmed up - 'naturally.' Surprisingly, Laguna seems to be less pigmented than Hoola so perhaps more suited to my pale skin. I've applied this product all over my face with a big fluffy brush (I use Sigma ones) and just my cheeks - both look fantastic.

 Am I bronzer convert? Well, I don't think I am one of these people who will have many different shades or brands. Having said that, I can now see why it is important to have a decent one in your make-up collection.
